Rogue Credit Union Community Complex

In the summer of 2022, Zip-O-Laminators played a key role in the construction of the Rogue Credit Union Community Complex in Medford, Oregon.

This 140,000-square-foot hybrid mass timber structure houses recreational facilities including two pools, tennis and basketball courts, a gym, and spaces for fitness classes.

The project stands out for its use of 30 glulam columns, 15 hybrid bow-string trusses, and 88 cross-laminated timber (CLT) roof panels covering 30,000 square feet of space.

Zip-O-Laminators provided 15 large glulam beams measuring 10-3/4” x 25-1/2” x 105’6” for the roof structure. Additionally, all columns for the project were fabricated in the same 10-3/4” width, showcasing Zip-O-Laminators’ capacity to source and produce wider lamstock.

These larger glulam members were critical in supporting the structural and aesthetic demands of the design, especially as mass timber construction continues to push boundaries.

Challenges & Solutions

The project faced a three-month delay just before the initial shipment of beams, originally scheduled for early September 2022.

To protect the 105-foot-long beams from the Pacific Northwest’s wet weather, Zip-O-Laminators made special arrangements to store the beams under cover during this period.

This precaution ensured that the beams maintained their quality throughout the extended project timeline.

Results

The project was completed successfully with Zip-O-Laminators contributing to the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of the Rogue Credit Union Community Complex.

The building’s use of hybrid mass timber and steel components sets a new standard in sustainable construction, demonstrating Zip-O-Laminators’ capacity to deliver large-scale glulam solutions for complex designs.
